Chapter 10 - Motif
I am speechless. I'm a little confused on why Vonnegut would ever write this. Nonetheless, from what I understand, Billy went through dark times with a motif popping up every once in while. That motif is "Poo-tee weet?" (215). This shows that in moments of darkness and hopelessness, there is light. That light is the motif that birds call out, "Poo-tee-weet?" (215). Obviously, the phrase, "So it goes" (6) is a much stronger example, but I already used it in a previous blog.

This blog post astonished me. I started reading this was shocked that I was on the same page with somebody. I was very confused as well. Your connection with "Poo-tee-weet?" was slightly different than mine. I saw the quotation as a rhetorical question. Your post shows me that it was a motif to the novel as well.
ReplyDeleteI never recognized "Poo-tee-weet" as a motif until I read this. I agree that Vonnegut uses it to symbolizes times of emptiness and hopelessness in Billy's life.
