Chapter 1-Connection
The first chapter reminds me of a classic movie called "The School of Rock". In this fantastic motion picture, Dewey Finn is trying to get a start in the music business, but he gets kicked out of his long term band. In desperation, he looks everywhere to start a band. He even goes to the extent of posing as substitute teacher where he finds his band built of prep school kids. (That's not creepy at all...) But nonetheless, this is similar to chapter one of Slaughterhouse-Five because the narrator is trying to get a start in the book industry. As well, both characters, from the book and movie, take part in a culture shock. Dewey Finn (a.k.a Mr. S[hneebly]) went from being a hard core rocker to a lighthearted, "gentle" musician with prep school kids. The narrator from Slaughterhouse-Five also went through a subtle change of his terrifying stories of Dresden during World War II to a hopefully fun story about Billy Pilgrim.
